Uttara Kannada: More children get Covid in 2nd wave
Karwar, June 24, 2021: Amidst fear of third-wave affecting the children, data shows that in Uttara Kannada the number of positive cases in the below 18 age group has remarkably increased in the second wave when compared to the first.
According to the data available with the district administration, 1,909 children (below the age of 18) were found Covid positive in the first wave (between March 21, 2020, and Feb 28, 2021.
However, in the second wave (between March 1 and June 21) 5,338 children were found positive.
The first wave:
Of the 11 Taluks, three recorded more than 200 cases in the first wave.
The highest number of positive cases in Children was found at Mundgod. As many as 354 children tested positive in Mundgod followed by Haliyal with 281 and Kumta with 260.
While other Taluks recorded less than 200, Joida had the least- 34 cases.
Second wave:
In the second wave, Haliyal topped. As many as 728 children were found Covid positive. While Sirsi had only 192 cases in the first case, it increased more than thrice the number with 681 cases.
Numbers increased in Yellapur (527) too. Honnavar (568) and Kumta (511) followed. In the second wave too Joida recorded the least number of cases. It had 298 cases.
The satisfaction is that though the number of cases increased, the children have recovered quickly both in the first as well as second wave.
