Coast Guard Karnataka rescues 10 fishermen

Mangaluru, May 27, 2021: Indian Coast Guard rescued 10 fishermen stranded in a fishing boat 20 nautical miles off Mangaluru today.
The stranded fishing boat from Tamil Nadu (IND-TN-15-MM-5338) named ‘Lord of The Ocean,’ sent a distress message from the boat was transmitted through VHF to Indian Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Sub Coordination Centre New Mangalore (MRSC).
In a swift operation, Coast Guard Karnataka immediately diverted C 448 on patrol for immediate Technical Assistance and ICGS Rajdoot was sailed from Mangalore Port for Rescue Operations.
The boat which had taken shelter at Porbandar port on May 14 due to Cyclonic Strom “Tauktae” left the port on 19 May. While sailing near Mangaluru the boat lost propulsion due to engine failure.
Meanwhile, MSV AL- BADRIYA MNG – 471 was requested by Coast Guard to provide Tow assistance till ICGS Rajdoot arrived datum. On reaching datum, ICGS Rajdoot towed the boat to safety up to Old Port for handing over to Fisheries Department Assistant Director.
The Coast Guard maintains effective electronic surveillance of Karnataka Coast through the Coastal Security Network (CSN) system.
