Mangaluru Tug mishap: SDPI demands ₹ 25 lakh to victims’ family

Mangaluru, May 18, 2021: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has demanded the government to pay ₹ 25 lakh compensation to the family members of the Mangaluru tug mishap victims.

“The government should increase the compensation from ₹ 10 lakh to ₹ 25 lakh,” SDPI district president Athavulla Jokatte demanded.

“Despite Navy and Coast Guard made an announcement asking the boats and fishermen to return to the shore in the wake of the cyclone, who permitted the Tug to enter sea? There should be a comprehensive inquiry into this,” he said.

“Media reports have stated that NMPT and MRPL officials have pointed fingers at each other and tried to hide their mistake during Revenue Minister’s review meeting. So the government should find the guilty and take necessary action.
