Dakshina Kannada: 13 houses damaged, 241 people shifted to relief camps

Mangaluru, May 15, 2021: As many as 13 houses were damaged partially and 241 people shifted to relief camps in Dakshina Kannada today.
Coastal districts are experiencing heavy rain since yesterday night. Sea has turned rough and waves were seen hitting the houses and structures near the shore.
District administration shifted as many as 241 people to the temporary relief camps.
Twenty members of NDRF, 25 members of SDRF, and 50 personnel of Civil defense have been pre-deployed for search and rescue.

Heavy rain in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru/Udupi, May 15, 2021: The low-pressure area in the Arabian Sea has resulted in heavy rain in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.
The low-pressure area is presently moving North due to which Kerala and adjoining districts of DK and Udupi received heavy rain. It started raining at night and continues in many parts of the region. No major damage has been reported.
Places like Mogaveerapatna, Ullala, Sasihithlu in Dakshina Kannada witnessed massive waves. A crematorium was damaged today morning.
The district administration alerted the people not to venture to the seashore and low-lying areas through an announcement.
As many as three temporary rehabilitation centers have been opened nearby areas of Ullal and Someshwara. However, the situation is under control and people have not shifted to these centers.
Meanwhile, as the sea has turned rough fishermen have returned to the harbor.
“Almost all our fishing boats have returned to Mangaluru harbor. Two of them have gone to Kochi. One fishing boat of Tamil Nadu has come to Mangaluru,” Fisheries Development Corporation president Nithin Kumar said.
Cyclone Tauktae is likely to further intensify as it moves towards Gujarat Coast.
