Udupi, May 14, 2021: Sri Vedavardhana Tirtha Sripadaru took charge as the new Peetadhipathi of Shirooru Matha today.
Sri Vishwavallabha Tirtha Sripadaru of Sode Vadiraja Matha, who held the additional charge of Shriooru Matha, had named Aniruddha Saralatthaya as the success of Shirooru Matha.
In the ceremony being held at Sri Shirooru Moola Matha at Shirooru in the Udupi district, Aniruddha had entered ‘Sanyasashrama,’ yesterday. Today after various rituals, he was anointed as the successor and Peetadhipathi of Shirooru Matha. Sri Vishwavallabha Tirtha Sripadaru declared his name as Vedavardhana Tirtha.
“We are sure he will enhance (Vardhana) the name of Shirooru Matha and also Vedas and so we have named him as Vedavardhana Tirtha,” Sri Vishwavallabha Tirtha Sripadaru told devotees after the ceremony.

Sripadaru went down memory lane about his association with the new seer and his family.
“When I entered the ‘Sanyasashrama,’ of Sode Matha, his (Anirudha’s father) used to bring the 1-year-old boy to our Matha. I used to play with him. He is from a good family and I am sure he will guide the people in the future,” Sripadaru said.
Shirooru Matha is one of the Asta (eight) Mathas of Udupi. After the sudden demise of Sri Lakshmivara Tirtha Sripadaru on July 19, 2018, the temple administration fell into the hands of Sri Vishwavallabha Tirtha Sripadaru of Sri Sode Matha as per the tradition.
