Woman dies of burn injuries in Udupi
Udupi, March 31, 2021: A 58-year-old woman with 56 percent burn injuries died at a hospital in Manipal yesterday.
Usha B Kotyan of Salikeri, Brahmavar Taluk was cooking in the kitchen on March 16 around 11.30 pm. She had been near the gas to place the milk down when the nighty she was wearing accidentally caught fire.
She shouted for help and her son Pradeep Kotyan rushed to help her and tried to extinguish the fire with his hands. By then Usha had sustained serious burn injuries to her neck. Pradeep too sustained injuries on his hands, chest, and face.
Both were immediately rushed to a government hospital. But the doctors advised Usha to be shifted to KMC Manipal as she had 56 percent burn injuries. She was under treatment at ICU. She did not respond to the treatment and died on March 30 at 2.20 pm.
A case under Unnatural Death Report (UDR) is registered at Manipal Police Station.
