Two held for smuggling gold paste in underwear
Mangaluru, Jan 15, 2021: Based on intelligence and profiling of passengers, Customs officials of Mangaluru International Airport seized 2.15 kg gold worth ₹1.09 crore concealed in underwear yesterday.
Faizal Thotty Melparamba (37) and Mohammad Shuhaib Mugu (31) from Kasargod, Kerala had come from Sharjah by Air India flight IX 1384 on January 14.
On personal search, both passengers were found to have concealed gold in paste form in underwear. 2.154 kg gold of 24k purity valued at ₹ 1.09 crore was recovered and seized.
Commissioner of Customs, Imamuddin Ahmed, and Joint Commissioner Joannes George have congratulated the officers of Mangaluru Air Customs team comprising Deputy Commissioner Praveen Kandi, officers Shrikanth. K, Superintendent, Subhendu Ranjan Behera, Superintendent, Naveen Kumar, Superintendent, and others.
