Anna Bhagya rice seized in Udupi
Udupi, Dec 07, 2020: After purchasing Anna Bhagya rice from the poor families the three were about to sell it at a higher cost when the police and food department officials detected them.
Police and food department officials have seized 560 kg Anna Bhagya rice (the rice distributed to the poor under Anna Bhagya Scheme) that was being transported illegally near Katpady on Sunday.
As per the rules, the rice distributed under Anna Bhagya scheme should not be purchased or sold to others.
Food inspector M T Leelananda received a tipoff about transportation of Anna Bhagya rice, the rice meant for BPL families. Based on the information, he along with police officials rushed to the spot and stopped a Eeco car . Of the three in the vehicle, two tried to escape but were held by the police.
Officials found 560 kg rice (16 bags of 35 kg each) in the car. The total cost of the rice is about ₹6,120.

Case has been filed at Kaup Police station against Imthiaz Ahmed (36) of Yellapura, Mohammed Naseer (27) of Kundapura, and Mohammed Tayoob (29) of Koteshwara village under sections 4, 7, and 3 of the Essential Commodities Act.
The three stated that they had purchased the Anna Bhagya rice from beneficiaries and were on their way to sell it at a higher price.
