Dowry Harassment case in Udupi
Udupi, Oct 30: Officials of Udupi Women’s Police Station have registered a Dowry Harassment against a person and his relatives.
Background:
Deepa had married Surendra G Poojary on May 3, 2012 Kundapura. Surendra resides in Yelahanka, Bengaluru and his family members are from Brahmavara Taluk.
A month before the wedding, Surendra, his father Govinda Poojary, mother Chandu Poojary and relatives Rama Billava, Sujatha Billava, Suresh G Poojary, and Sudhakar G Poojary had demanded ₹2 lakh dowry. The family members of Deepa had paid it.
However, after the wedding when Deepa went to her husband’s house in Bengaluru, her husband and family members continued to trouble her for more dowry money.
They also threatened her by life if she told the harassment to her family members. They also put her out of the house.
Finally, Deepa decided to complain about this to the police.
Case:
A case under Section 498 (A) (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) along with 149 (unlawful assembly) of IPC and also Section 3 and 4 of Dowry Prevention act has been registered.
