Mangaluru Police special squad to curb cattle theft
Mangaluru, Oct 25: Formed just a few days ago, Mangaluru police’s special squad has succeeded in tracking and intercepting several incidents of illegal cattle transport and theft.
Mangaluru Police led by Commissioner Vikash Kumar Vikash, DCPs Vinay A Gaonkar and Arunanshu Giri took the illegal cattle transport and cattle theft seriously as many a time they turn into a law and order problem.
In the past, there have been many incidents when illegal cattle transport and cattle theft resulted in communal tension.
Thus the police came up with an idea to form an exclusive squad to curb cattle theft and cattle trafficking. The task for this squad- Cattle theft and illegal transport detection squad- which comprises a Sub Inspector and five personnel, is to keep a tab on illegal cattle transport and cattle theft. The officials have to collect the information through their informants, intercept the vehicles carrying cattle and arrest the accused.
Started on October 5, the squad has succeeded in tracking and intercepting several cases. Based on the intelligence of the squad, and also the strict vigil by the check posts, vehicles carrying cattle are being tracked and stopped by the police regularly.
As the police team is taking necessary action, there is not much room for vigilante activity too.
VHP appreciates: VHP Vibhag Karyadarshi Sharan Pumpwell has appreciated this move by the police.
“We have been demanding the police to take strict action. Police have formed a squad and have taken the issue seriously. This effort has to be appreciated. Whenever we get information about cattle trafficking, we pass on to the police and they take necessary action,” Sharan Pumpwell said.
