Navoor (Belthangady), Oct 04: The weekly Vishnusahasranama Parayana at Navoor Sri Gopalakrishna Temple has gone virtual.

Situated at a picturesque Navoor village, on the foothills of Western Ghats, Sri Gopalakrishna Temple is known for its various religious activities throughout the year. The Temple is about 15 kms from Belthangady Town.

Participants of ‘Virtual Parayana,’

‘Vishnu Sahasranama Parayana,’ started three years ago and held every Sunday is one of the main events.

People from Navoor and nearby villages gather at the temple on Sundays for the Parayana for one hour from 5 am.

The COVID pandemic has made it difficult for the people and it was at this time Brahmakalasha Committee president Dr. Pradeep Atikukke came up with the ‘virtual,’ idea. He decided to restart the Parayana through Google Meet.

While earlier only villagers or the nearby people attended the Parayana, the Google Meet provided an opportunity to even those who are settled in other states and abroad.

“Today was the first day of the virtual Parayana. Forty-Eight participated today. Apart from the local devotees, SDM Trust secretary Dr. B Yashovarma and his family participated in the event. Meanwhile, devotees from the United States, Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Goa participated today. It was a good beginning,” Dr. Pradeep told The Canara Post.
