COVID deaths: Uttara Kannada DC warns of action against the obstructors
DC Dr Harish Kumar K |
Karwar, July 08: Sending a strong message to those who oppose the performance of the last rites of COVID victims, Uttara Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar K has directed the officials to file cases against such people.
Dr. Harish Kumar held a video conference at his office with the Assistant Commissioners, Tahsildars, Executive Officers of Taluk Panchayats, and officials of local bodies on Tuesday. The warning comes in the backdrop of an incident in Karwar on Monday evening where people opposed the cremation of a COVID victim.
“As per rules, in case of the death of a person, the local bodies have the right to supervise the last rights related rituals. Officials have the power to file a case against anybody who opposes it,” he said.
Harish Kumar asserted that every Taluk in the district has all the facilities to provide treatment for COVID.
“A COVID patient should be provided with the treatment locally. If there are any other medical complications it should be attended immediately. There could be a delay in treatment if all the patients are sent to Karwar,” he said.
The DC asked the officials to pay attention to every COVID patient failing to which the concerned ACs and Tahshildars would be held responsible.
Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police Shiva Prakash Devaraju stressed on the importance of contact tracing, containment zone management and keeping a tab on quarantine in controlling COVID.
