Panchayats in Uttara Kannada to monitor people’s entry
PDO-led teams to keep tab on returnees
Karwar: Relaxation of lockdown has made travel easier for the people. Though the movement of people cannot be banned, the Uttara Kannada district administration has taken various steps to track people from outside and keep a tab on them.
As a first step, the district administration has started massive survey work in the district.
The survey started on June 1 and would be held till June 5.
The health department along with others will conduct door to door survey where they will collect the details of every person in the family and also who have come from outside.
“Every Panchayat in the district has been asked to form a team that would be lead by the Panchayat Development Officer (PDO). It would comprise Teachers, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, Village Accountant, Gram Sahayaks, Beat Police, and other government employees in the village.”
“Surveillance plays an important role in controlling COVID. We will be able to get the data about those who have come from outside to our district. It will also help in chalking out proper strategy in the future to control COVID,” Deputy Commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar K told The Canara Post.
But the district administration is not silent by just this one-time program.A permanent and continuous mechanism has been chalked out at the Panchayat level.
Every Panchayat in the district has been asked to form a team that would be lead by the Panchayat Development Officer (PDO). It would comprise Teachers, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, Village Accountant, Gram Sahayaks, Beat Police, and other government employees in the village.
A circular related to forming this has already been issued by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar K.
“The members of the team should submit a daily report to the PDO about the outsiders coming to the village. The PDO will then forward the details to the Tahsildar. All the Tahsildars and Executive Officers (of the ULBs) would monitor the teams under his jurisdiction and also provide the necessary information to our office,” Dr. Harish Kumar added.
