Navy rescues burn injury patient from merchant vessel
Karwar: He had sustained severe burn injuries on his face while working in the merchant vessel. The sea was rough and help appeared difficult.
It was at this juncture the Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC) from Sagar Prahari Bal (SPB) of the Indian Navy, flung into action and helped the 24-year-old youth get timely treatment.
The navy received a request from Merchant Vessel MV Vardman anchored off Karwar in Karnataka on May 21 through Karwar Port for emergency evacuation of a crew member. He had sustained severe burn injuries to his face due to oil spillage at high temperature.
The immediate response by Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC) from Sagar Prahari Bal (SPB), Karwar ensured that the 24-year Oilerman was evacuated and provided timely medical care. The entire evolution was completed within an hour despite rough seas.
The injured individual is an Indian national and hails from Berhampur, Odisha. He is being treated at Karwar and his medical condition is reported to be stable, the Indian Navy stated in a press statement.
