Udupi: The afternoon bulletin has come as a shock to people of coastal Karnataka. The report states 16 new cases in Dakshina Kannada and 5 in the Udupi district.
The happiness of Udupi district of joining the ‘green zone,’ turned to be a short-lived one with five new COVID-19 cases being detected on Friday.
The number of positive cases in Dakshina Kannada too saw a steep increase with a record of 16 new cases on Friday. Of the 16 positive cases, 15 are from DK and 1 is from Uttara Kannada district. The person from Uttara Kannada along with his wife and child are under quarantine in Dakshina Kannada.
The five and 15 tested positive in Udupi and DK respectively were among the 176 who had returned from Dubai in the first Vande Bharath Mission flight to Mangaluru International Airport on May 12 night.
As per the SOP, all those who returned were kept under quarantine. Thus no outsider had any contacts with these people. The patients have been shifted to the hospital for COVID treatment.
Meanwhile a 68 year old woman (P-1009) from Surathkal who suffered from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection was admitted for treatment. The samples were tested and she was declared COVID positive. Officials are probing the source of virus.
Udupi:
Udupi district had only three COVID-19 cases. All three were cured and discharged from the hospital. They also had completed the quarantine term. As there are no active cases in Udupi, it was declared a green zone during the last week of April.
But now 5 new cases have been detected in the district.
