Mangaluru, April 19: A woman admitted to Wenlock District hospital with breathing problem died on Sunday morning. She has been tested COVID-19 positive.
This is the first death of a COVID-19 patient in the Dakshina Kannada district.

Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh said that the 50-year-old woman from Bantwal was admitted to hospital on April 18 due to breathing problem. Her samples were taken for testing. Though she was provided treatment at the ICU, she died on Sunday at 9.15 am. The test report that came in the afternoon proved that she was COVID-19 positive.
People near her house said that her son had been to Dubai and returned on March 14. Health department officials said that they did not have information about him being abroad. Nobody in the family had any health problem. The mother developed breathing problem on Saturday and was shifted to the hospital.
She died in Sunday morning.
The officials have quarantined the family members of the dead.
Dakshina Kannada is one of the districts which has been considered as red zone.
