Five month pregnant from Bhatkal tested COVID-19 positive
A 22-year-old pregnant from Bhatkal has been tested COVID-19 positive on Wednesday.
This has raised concern not just because it has increased the number of positive cases in Uttara Kannada district but also because it is not yet clear to the officials on how she got the virus when none of her family members or neighbors have been tested COVID-19 positive.
The woman is 5 months pregnant. Last week the woman had come with her husband to the hospital in Bhatkal having breathing problems. She had a similar difficulty during her earlier pregnancy too. But it was the health department officials who were alarmed when they found that she and her foreign return husband suffered from diarrhea. The officials who collected the samples of the two. The lab has sent the report declaring wife COVID positive and husband negative.
The woman’s husband, who was working in Dubai had returned to India on March 17. After landing at Mumbai airport, he stayed in Mumbai for four days and then came to Bhatkal by train. He restricted his movement and was completely under home quarantine and did not have any health issue then. However the only problem he had was diarrhea which he thought was because of the food.
It is suspected that due to the resistance power, the COVID-19 might not have had shown its impact on the person. However it might have shown its symptoms only in his wife.
Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr. K Harish Kumar said that necessary steps are taken for her treatment and if necessary she would also be sent to Udupi for further treatment.
Till date 8 from Bhatkal were tested COVID-19 positive and were under treatment at the Navy Hospital in Karwar. Two of them recovered and discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.
