Door to Door supply of groceries in Uttara Kannada
Karwar, March 26: The initiative taken up by the Uttara Kannada district administration is not just unique but also may be a first of its kind in the state.
When people throughout the country are worried about getting their groceries and daily needs during the 21 days lockdown, the Uttara Kannada district administration has come out with a simple solution on the 2nd day. This has received good appreciation from the public.
On the first day of the Lockdown Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner K Harish Kumar had assured people of working on a mechanism to ensure that the normal life is not hit by the lockdown.
He had made it clear that the lockdown in the country was necessary to achieve social distancing and to ensure health safety of the people. As people cannot venture out of their house, Dr. Harish Kumar had proposed to work on a mechanism to ensure that the groceries and the food items reach the houses.
The district administration identified merchants in various locations for this purpose.
On Thursday morning, these merchants loaded their vehicles with daily needs including sealed bottles of drinking water, eatables, groceries and vegetables and went to the doorsteps of the people.
At every road, announcements were made to make people know about the new system that had been started to help them.
“We wanted some groceries and fruits and had our own doubts on how to get it. But today we saw the vehicle carrying all that we needed at our doorsteps. The door to door sale is a good move,” Anil, a person who had come to purchase vegetables opined.
The officials also ensured that people did not come in groups or stood in the queue. One after the other family would come and purchase ensuring that nobody had to simply stand near the vehicle.
