Mangaluru, October 26, 2025: Energy, enthusiasm, and youthful spirit filled Mangala Stadium on Sunday as Expert PU College, Kodialbail, held its much-awaited Annual Sports Meet 2025. The event, a celebration of fitness, friendship, and fair play, was inaugurated by Mr. Shyam Bhat, Senior Vice President of Axis Bank, Mangaluru, who graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Bhat highlighted how sports go beyond the field to shape character. “Sports are essential not just for physical fitness, but also for mental well-being,” he said. Drawing lessons from both victory and defeat, he urged students to embrace the “3 Ds” — Discipline, Dedication, and Determination — as guiding principles for success. He then declared the meet open, officially setting the tone for a day of competition and camaraderie.

The morning saw a vibrant march past by students representing their batches, followed by the hoisting of the college flag and a heartfelt rendition of the college anthem. The torch relay, carried by the college’s best athletes, lit up the stadium with pride and symbolism, while the release of balloons by dignitaries — including Vice Chairperson Dr. Ushaprabha N. Nayak, IT Head Mr. Ankush N. Nayak, Yogarathna Gopalkrishna Delampady, and Principal Prof. Ramachandra Bhat — added to the festive spirit.

Principal Prof. Bhat, in his welcome address, reminded students that true victory lies in participation and perseverance. Ms. Sthutishree, Vice-President of the college, led the oath-taking ceremony, reaffirming the commitment to sportsmanship. The inaugural session was compered by Ms. Shwetha Suvarna, Head of the English Department.

The day unfolded with thrilling track and field events, showcasing the determination and teamwork of students. As cheers echoed through the stadium, the atmosphere reflected the college’s belief in holistic learning — balancing academics with athletic excellence.

The valedictory ceremony in the evening brought a reflective close to the celebrations. Mr. Nithin Poojary, Director of Physical Education at SDM Polytechnic College, Ujire, attended as chief guest. Sharing his journey from a student athlete to representing India internationally, he said, “Sports gave me recognition.” He recalled how his dedication in the field earned him a government appointment without facing competitive exams. Urging students to stay focused, he remarked, “If you must give up something, let it be your mobile phone — not your education.”

The individual championship (boys) was won by Prathul D.R. (C2 batch), while Abhishta (E2 batch) emerged as the girls’ champion. The overall championship went to the B2 batch.

The chief guest lowered the flag, marking the close of a day that celebrated more than just medals — it celebrated effort, unity, and joy. The valedictory programme was compered by Ranjal Latha Shenoy, lecturer in the English Department, and Pramod Kini, Programme Coordinator, delivered the vote of thanks.

As the national anthem echoed across the stadium, students stood together — proud, inspired, and ready to carry the spirit of sportsmanship beyond the field.
