Ujire, Sept. 10, 2025: “Every teacher who dispels the darkness in a student’s life and lights the lamp of knowledge can be seen as embodying the divine,” observed Dr. Sridhar N. Bhat, Administrative Registrar of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College, Ujire.

He was speaking at the “Gurusmriti 2025” Teachers’ Day programme held on Wednesday at the college’s Indraprastha Auditorium.

Drawing a parallel between cleansing a home of dust and clutter, Dr. Bhat said it is the responsibility of teachers to remove unwanted thoughts from students’ minds and sow seeds of positivity. “‘Gu’ means darkness, while ‘Ru’ means the one who removes it. Thus, a guru is one who leads students from darkness to light,” he explained.

He added that teachers should not confine themselves to academic lessons but must also inspire students to pursue success with curiosity and dedication, guiding them to become responsible members of society.

College Principal Dr. Vishwanath P., who presided over the function, remarked that Teachers’ Day was an occasion to remind educators of their invaluable role. He urged teachers to preserve the sanctity of their position and guide students in understanding and upholding India’s rich culture and traditions.

The event began with floral tributes to Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and lighting of the lamp. Vice-Principal K.P. Nandakumari, Examination Controller Ganesh Nayak, PG Dean Soumya B.P., and Commerce Dean Shakunthala, along with faculty members and students, were present.

As part of the programme, student representatives shared their reflections on teachers. Anvitha Sera of II Science spoke about her experiences, while Soukhya Jain of III Commerce delivered the welcome address and Spandana offered the vote of thanks. The event was compered by Shwetha K.G. of III BCA and Samya of B.Voc. Chandan and team led the prayer.

To mark the celebrations, teachers participated in fun games, and various cultural programmes were presented by both faculty and students, adding vibrancy to the occasion.
