Heavy Rains: Schools and Colleges to Remain Closed in Five Taluks of Uttara Kannada on July 26
Karwar, July 25, 2025: Following continuous heavy rains and a Red Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada has ordered the closure of all educational institutions in five taluks of the district on July 26, 2025.
The taluks affected are Karwar, Ankola, Kumta, Honnavar, and Bhatkal. The closure applies to Anganwadi centers, primary and high schools, pre-university colleges, and all colleges, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of children and students. However, any scheduled examinations will go on as planned and are exempt from this holiday declaration.
The alert was based on an IMD bulletin indicating intense rainfall activity across Uttara Kannada district from July 25 to July 26. Following this, the Women and Child Development Department and the Department of Public Instruction recommended suspending academic activities in areas under threat.
