Fisheries Minister Hands Over Relief to Family of Deceased Fisherman

Udupi, July 16, 2025: Fisheries Minister Mankal S. Vaidya visited the home of Neeladhara J. Tingalaya from Pithrody, who tragically drowned when a large wave capsized the Disco boat near St. Mary’s Island on July 11. The minister offered condolences and handed over a compensation cheque to the bereaved family.
Speaking to the media, the minister said Neeladhara had slipped and fallen into the sea while fishing. Although he was rushed to a hospital, his life could not be saved. He acknowledged similar incidents in Bhatkal, Murudeshwar, and other areas, expressing deep concern.
The government has increased the relief amount from ₹6 lakh to ₹10 lakh. An additional ₹5 lakh is being provided for the purchase of boats, engines, and nets. The minister urged fishermen to follow weather alerts and exercise caution while fishing.
MLAs Yashpal Suvarna, Gurme Suresh Shetty, Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, and district officials were present during the visit.
