Crackdown on Fake Construction Worker IDs: Over 1,500 Cards Canceled in Dakshina Kannada
Mangaluru, Dec 01, 2024: Beneficiaries registered with the Karnataka State Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board have been availing various financial benefits. In Dakshina Kannada district alone, 1,42,340 workers are registered and possess construction worker identity cards.
However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, non-construction workers allegedly registered themselves to receive benefits such as food kits and tool kit assistance. To address this issue, the government has initiated a campaign to identify and cancel fake cards, ensuring that benefits are restricted to genuine workers. So far, 1,537 fake identity cards have been canceled in Dakshina Kannada district.
Authorities have advised individuals who are not construction workers but possess identity cards to return them voluntarily to the respective labor inspectors’ office. Those who comply will avoid further legal action.
If these fake cards are not returned, officials will verify the records, cancel the registrations of ineligible individuals, and take appropriate legal measures. Strict action will also be initiated against those who issued employment certificates to ineligible individuals or organizations, as per a statement from the Assistant Labor Commissioner of the Mangaluru division.
