WGSHA Hosts Annual Christmas Fruit Mixing Ceremony
Manipal, Nov 21, 2024: The Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA) kicked off the festive season with its annual Christmas Fruit Mixing Ceremony at the Lavana Restaurant on Thursday. The event brought together students, faculty, administrative heads, and members of the Pai family, alongside the MAHE leadership team, in a cherished tradition of preparing the iconic Christmas fruit cake.
The ceremony was presided over by Smt. Vasanti R. Pai, Trustee of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), as the Chief Guest. In her address, she highlighted the deeper essence of Christmas, emphasizing themes of love, warmth, and community. “This fruit mixture symbolizes not just celebrations but the unity and shared spirit of our community,” she said.
Dr. P. Rajshekhar, Principal-In-Charge of WGSHA, extended a warm welcome to the attendees, setting a tone of camaraderie and festive cheer. The venue was adorned with traditional decorations and twinkling lights, while the aroma of spices filled the air, evoking the Christmas spirit.
Participants, including students and faculty, donned aprons and chef hats to engage in the ceremonial mixing of ingredients such as raisins, candied peel, dates, cherries, and aromatic spices. Guided by WGSHA’s chefs, the activity blended joy with learning.
Expressing gratitude, Dr. Rajshekhar remarked, “The Christmas Fruit Mixing Ceremony is a much-loved tradition that unites our community. The enthusiasm displayed here today reflects the true spirit of the season.”
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Lt. Gen. Dr. M. D. Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE, and Dr. H. S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of MAHE, along with Heads of Constituent Units.
Guests were treated to a Hi-Tea prepared by WGSHA students and faculty, showcasing the institution’s culinary expertise.
