Mangaluru, Aug 29, 2024: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. Established on August 29, 1964, at Sandipani Ashram in Mumbai, the VHP has spent the last six decades organizing Hindus globally and promoting the practice and protection of Hinduism. This year’s anniversary, known as ‘Shashtipoorti,’ is a major milestone for the organization, said VHP Prant Sah Karyadarshi Sharan Pumpwell during a press briefing.

He highlighted that the VHP operates in over 50 countries, including the USA, Canada, the UK, Germany, and Japan.

“The organization, which began under the leadership of Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, Maharaja of Mysore, now has a presence in over 90,000 locations across India. It has been instrumental in campaigns like the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi movement, and the preservation of Amarnath, Ram Setu, and Karnataka’s Dattapeetha,” he added.

The VHP’s initiatives also include cow protection, youth mobilization through Bajrang Dal and Durga Vahini, and women’s empowerment through its Matrushakti program.

In celebration of its 60th year, the VHP has planned a series of events across Dakshina Kannada, including Hindu assemblies, processions, sports meets, and religious gatherings in 21 blocks from August 25 to September 1. Thousands of Hindu devotees are expected to participate, said Division Sah Karyadarshi Shivananda Mendon.

District President H.K. Purushottam, Vice President Manohar Suvarna, and other VHP leaders were present at the briefing.
