Environmental Conservation Measures Implemented in Udupi: Hotels and Fast Food Joints Urged to Go Green
Udupi, Dec 18, 2023: Taking a proactive stance toward environmental sustainability, the Municipal Commissioner in Udupi has issued a directive to hotel and fast-food establishment owners, urging them to refrain from using harmful colors and chemicals in their operations. The hotels, fast-food joints and wedding celebrations have been asked not to use paper plates, cups, glass, and tissues from Jan 1.
In a bid to reduce waste, hotel, fast-food establishment owners have been specifically instructed to opt for reusable materials like steel cups and plates, steering away from disposable alternatives such as paper plates, paper glasses, and tissues.
City officials, including the Municipal Commissioner, environmental engineers, junior health inspectors, sanitary supervisors, and pourakarmikas, have conducted raids across various parts of the city. During these operations, harmful paints and tasting powder were seized, and warnings were issued to those found in violation.
Starting January 1, hotels, fast-food joints, and even wedding functions are prohibited from using paper plates, cups, glass, and tissues. Stringent measures are in place, with the warning of business license cancellation and imposition of penalties for non-compliance.
In a press release, the Municipal Commissioner called upon the public to collaborate with the City Corporation in making Udupi a garbage-free city. Emphasizing the initiative’s significance in safeguarding public health and preserving the environment, the commissioner urged collective efforts to ensure the success of this eco-friendly endeavor.
