Manipal, September 10, 2023: The Manipal School of Architecture and Planning (MSAP) in partnership with MCODS Manipal and the Innovation Centre, successfully hosted the inaugural DENTAVERSE 1.0 Hackathon on September 1st

This unique event served as a convergence point for budding innovators, dental enthusiasts, and tech aficionados, envisioning the future of technology through a lens of creativity, innovation, and interprofessional collaboration.

The DENTAVERSE 1.0 Hackathon emerged as a remarkable display of inventive ideas and collaborative spirit, aiming to foster creativity and spur the development of advanced sustainable solutions to address challenges and opportunities within the field.

A dedicated team, led by Dr. Shruti Acharya, Dr. Komal Smriti, Dr. Mohammed Zuber, Dr. Sucheta Kolekar, Dr. Anoop Shukla, Vidya Rao, and Anupama Pavithran, worked tirelessly to bring this event to fruition. Their endeavors were further fortified by the steadfast support of the leadership at MSAP and MCODS, including Dr. Ramadevi Nandineni, Dr. Pradeep Kini, and Dr. Monica Charlotte Solomon. The event witnessed active participation from students representing both colleges and other MAHE institutions, engaging in swift and cooperative idea generation under the three overarching themes: sustainable scrubs and clogs, spatial interventions, and patient distractions.

Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Pro Vice Chancellor, Technology & Science, MAHE, and Dr. S K Katharia, EC Member of the Dental Council of India, Professor, and HOD of oral surgery at S N Dental College Agra, were the guests at the inaugural session.

Sabhahit articulated, “We hold firm in our belief that innovation holds the key to shaping the future of healthcare. This hackathon stands as a testament to our dedication to nurturing creativity and pushing the boundaries of what’s achievable in the dental arena.”

In his address, Dr. S K Katharia emphasized that Dentistry transcends mere treatments; it entails crafting a comfortable and innovative experience for patients. “I am gratified to witness young minds laboring on solutions that can elevate patient care,” he remarked.

An eminent panel of judges from diverse backgrounds rigorously evaluated 23 teams comprising 115 students across three rounds.

The top five groundbreaking ideas were duly recognized, sharing a prize pool amounting to Rupees 50,000 during the valedictory ceremony on September 2nd.

The ceremony featured Dr. Parmeet S Banga, Professor, Department of Prosthodontics, YMT Dental College, Kharghar Navi Mumbai, as the chief guest, imparting an inspiring culmination to this epoch-making event.
