Manipal: Kasturba Medical College and Hospital Observes World Brain Day
Manipal, July 22, 2023: The Department of Neurosciences at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal, marked World Brain Day today with a Brain Awareness Education Program.
World Brain Day is commemorated on July 22 every year, and this year’s theme was “Brain Health and Disability: Leave No One Behind.”
This international movement aims to bridge the information gap and raise public awareness about impairments to brain health, while also advocating for improved healthcare, education, and research related to neurological disorders.
The program was inaugurated by Dr. Padmaraj Hegde, Dean of KMC Manipal.
In his address, he emphasized the significance of the brain as the most crucial organ responsible for our emotions, thoughts, and actions.
Dr. Hegde stressed the importance of maintaining brain health through a well-balanced diet and exercise. He highlighted that the World Health Organization celebrates World Brain Day on July 22nd each year to create awareness about brain health.
Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, attended as the guest of honor and highlighted the availability of advanced treatments for brain diseases nowadays. Early detection and timely treatment are crucial in managing brain-related ailments effectively. Kasturba Hospital Manipal is equipped with cutting-edge technologies, expert doctors, and specialized departments dedicated to brain care, urging the public to make use of these facilities promptly.
Dr. Anand Venugopal, Chief Operating Officer of Teaching Hospitals, MAHE Manipal, presented prizes to the winners of the poster competition on brain health. Dr. Aparna R Pai, Professor and Head of the Department of Neurology, provided an overview of the program, informing the audience about a series of expert talks on brain health that will be broadcast on the hospital’s Facebook page as part of the Brain Day awareness initiative.
Dr. Raghavendra Nayak, Professor of Neurosurgery, elaborated on this year’s theme, “Brain Health and Disability,” discussing the importance of addressing neurological impairments and ensuring comprehensive healthcare for individuals with disabilities. Dr. Shripadma PV, Assistant Professor of the Department, skillfully conducted the program as the Master of Ceremony.
