Uttara Kannada DC calls for a tourism model involving public
Karwar, Sep 27: Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar K has stressed on a tourism model that would include the district administration, stakeholders, and the public.
He was speaking at the World Tourism Day celebration at the resort in Sadashivagad Fort on Sunday.
“Mere roads and buildings will not help in tourism. It has to be joint work with the involvement of district administration, stakeholders, and public,” he said.
“The tourism of one area is different from the other. Road connectivity is necessary for a tourist destination that is meant for elderly and family members but not for trekking or ecologically sensitive destinations,” he said.
Giving his experience of trekking, Dr. Harish Kumar spoke about the difference it would make due to the involvement of the local residents.
“The hospitality provided by the people in the forest areas during our trekking makes the place more attractive. People would like to come to the place again. The local villagers also have the responsibility of ensuring that the tourism does not go out of control,” he added.
The DC stressed on Uttara Kannada developing its own model of tourism that would be replicated by others than the district following others.
