Udupi Floods: Water supply likely to be affected

Udupi, Sep 20: With the catchment areas of Swarna River receiving heavy rainfall, the water has increased alarmingly.

While the nearby villages have been flooded, the water pumping station at Baje Dam stopped today.

Baje Dam across the Swarna River is the main source of water supply for Udupi City.

Officials said that for the first time the water has crossed 10.5 mtr level at Baje Dam. The river water was seen flowing over the dam on Sunday morning.

“Due to flood, pumping of water is not possible at the dam. Pumps stopped from 4.55 am. At present no water is being supplied to Udupi City and enroute villages,” an officer added.
