Four held for stuffing 52 buffaloes in containers
Udupi Sep 15: In a major operation, Amasebail police seized 52 buffaloes stuffed in two containers. The buffaloes were being transported illegally.
Amasebail Station SI received a tip-off about an illegal cattle transport. When the police officials were checking vehicles at the Hosangadi, near Shimoga-Udupi border on Tuesday at 9.30, they found two vehicles moving from Hulikal towards Hosangadi that were illegally transporting buffaloes.
The container truck (KA 17 D 6471) had 28 buffaloes stuffed and another container (KA 51 A 9846) had 24 buffaloes stuffed inside in a cruel manner violating all the norms.
The accused who were in the vehicle did not have any documents too. The buffaloes were allegedly being transported to be slaughtered.
The police arrested four persons- Mehaboob (27), Imran (29) of Davangere, Bapu Saheb (46), and Asif (23) of Bailahongal, Belagavi district.
A case has been booked under Section 5, 8, 11 of the Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act 1964, Section 11 (D) of the Animal Cruelty Act, and also the Indian Motor Vehicle Act.
