Workshop on Non-Alcoholic Liver Disease held for Government Doctors
Manipal, June 12, 2022: Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and Department of Community Medicine of Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal in association with the Department of Health and Family welfare, Udupi District organized a Workshop and training program for Government Doctors on Non-Alcoholic Liver Disease.
The program was held as part of the Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis day. Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) day is observed on the second Thursday of June every year. It is dedicated to increasing awareness about non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, or NASH, among the general public, at-risk patients, the medical community, public health authorities, and the media.

On this occasion Dr. Sharath K Rao, Dean, KMC defined Non-Alcoholic Liver Disease as the disease of Lifestyle.
“Obesity and Junk food are the main causes for this and this is an easily preventable disease. Arranging this workshop is to educate and train Medical officers about this disease because they are the primary contact with the community” he said.
Dr. Robert Rebello, Administrative Surgeon, Taluk Hospital, Kundapura, and Dr. AjithKumar Shetty, Aneasthelogist, Community health center, Brahmavara were present.
Dr. Shiran Shetty, Professor and Head Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, and Dr. Murlidhar Kulkarni, Associate professor of Community Medicine participated as resource persons.
Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical superintendent welcomed the gathering, and Dr. Ashwini Kumar, Professor and Head Department of Community Medicine proposed the vote of thanks.

More than 100 Doctors from Primary health centers, Community Health centers taluk Hospitals and District Health Office were present.
