World Diabetes Day 2021: Kasturba Hospital organizes Cyclothon

Manipal, Nov 14, 2021: Department of Endocrinology of Kasturba Medical College and Hospital Manipal organized Cyclothon on the occasion of World Diabetes Day.

The Cyclothon was from Kasturba Hospital Manipal to Ajjarakad Stadium in Udupi.

World Diabetes Day is observed on Nov 14 every year. This year the Diabetes Day is observed with them- Access to Diabetes Care, if not now, When?

Dr. H S Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, MAHE Manipal flagged off to the Cyclothon in front of the OPD at Kasturba Hospital Manipal.

The Cyclothon moved to Ajjarakad Stadium via, Syndicate Circle, City Bus stand, Bannanje, Karavali Circle, Ambalapadi, Brahmagiri.

Zumba session was held at the stadium for the participants. More than 500 people participated in the Cyclothon.

The valedictory function was held at Ajjarakad Stadium.

Dr. H S Ballal was the Chief Guest. Dr. PLNG Rao, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, MAHE, Dr. Arun Maiya, Dean, Manipal College of Health Profession, Dr. Roshan Shetty, Assistant Director youth Empowerment and Sports were the Guests of honor of the program. Dr. Sharath K Rao Dean, KMC, C G Muthana, Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Sahana Shetty, Professor and Head Department of Endocrinology were present.

“Diabetes and High blood pressure are silent killers. People do not understand the severity of the disease because 50% of diabetic patients are not diagnosed in the early stage. Diagnosis is very important at the early stage especially in rural areas,” Dr. Ballal said.

Dr. Sahana Shetty gave an overview of the program and Dr. Avinash Shetty Proposed the vote of thanks.
