St Mary’s College organizes Paddy Transplantation program
Shirva, July 13, 2021: Green Teacher Forum of St. Mary’s College, Shirva in association with NSS, NCC, Rovers, and Rangers, Red Cross unit, Rotary Club Shirva has organized ‘Paddy Transplantation Program’ on Monday.
This unique program to motivate the young generation towards agriculture and provide them a platform to understand various techniques and processes involved in agriculture is being held for the second time.
On Monday 60 people including teaching, non-teaching staff, student leaders of various units along with alumni and residents transplanted two farmlands till afternoon.
The Paddy transplantation was done at the fields owned by Frederick Castelino at Kunjigudde in Pilar.
The program was inaugurated by progressive farmer Raghavendra Nayak.
‘In recent years, rice farming is reduced to a serious extent. We should preserve our relationship with the soil and hand it over to the next generation. We should serve as a part of agrarian society’, Nayak said.
Dr. Herald Ivan Monis, Principal of the College presided over the program said that constant social service of the students and teachers leads to a better society. He appreciated the support rendered by the Alumni Jackson Dsouza and the team in this regard.
Jinesh Ballal, Secretary of Rotary Club Shirva, Pundalik Marathe, Journalist and Chairman of Karnataka Sahitya Parishad Kaup Taluk, College NCC Officer Lieutenant K. Praveen Kumar, NSS Programme Officer Premanath Raksha, Rover and Ranger Leaders Prakash, Sangeetha Poojary, Youth Red Cross Convener Murali, Staff Secretary Reema Lobo, Teaching and Administrative Staff, student leaders of the various units, Alumni members actively participated in this unique work of transplantation.
Saplings were presented to Frederick Castelino and guests as a token of gratitude.
Yashoda, Convener of ‘Green Teacher Forum and Director of the Student Welfare Council welcomed the gathering and compered the program.
