Fact Check: No Complete lockdown, strict implementation of existing guidelines
Udupi, April 22, 2021: Has the state government issued a new order imposing complete lockdown? This is the question among the people as the officials have asked many shops to shut down since today morning.
While many believe that the strict action is after the ‘new order,’ issued by the state government, the fact check by The Canara Post has indicated that the officials are only implementing the existing guidelines (issued on April 20) strictly. While the state government had issued a detailed guidelines which including night curfew, weekend lockdown and other restrictions, the new ‘order,’ in discussion is only a clarification given by the state government as sought from people and officials on the applicability of the guidelines for the weekdays (Monday to Friday).
However, this clarification includes the Addendum (addition to the existing order) which the government had issued on April 21.
“Many people and even some officials believed that the ‘restrictions,’ mentioned in the order (April 20) was only for weekends and thought all the activities will be allowed during weekdays. People wanted the government to clarify. So the government has now given a clarification. It is not a new order. Except the two lines addendum all the words and sentence are same in both,” a senior officer told The Canara Post.
“For example, people thought the hotel would be open on weekdays and only during weekend lockdown they have to take parcel. This is not true. The order mentions that hotels will have to provide takeaway and parcels only. As there were confusion about the shops not mentioned in the guidelines, the government has now clarified that all the shops and establishments other than those mentioned in the list will be closed. Now as the officials have got a clear idea, they are shutting all the shops and outlets which are not mentioned in the list,” he added.
