Karwar, March 18, 2021: Special Gram Sabhas will be held in all the Panchayats of Uttara Kannada district to create awareness on prevention of COVID second wave and also to stress on COVID vaccination.

Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat CEO Priyanga M told this during the Zilla Panchayat meeting held on Wednesday.

“Special Gram Sabha is proposed to be held in every Panchayat where awareness will be created on the prevention of COVID second wave. Later people will be motivated to get themselves vaccinated,” Priyanga said while answering ZP member Shivanand Hegde’s question.

Hegde had asked the measures taken by the district administration to prevent COVID second wave.

“The state government has issued several guidelines. COVID negative certificate has been made mandatory for those coming from other states. Chief Minister who conducted a video conferencing with the officials has stressed on the measures to be taken,” she said.

COVID test would be conducted on senior citizens, those from other states, and laborers. In Uttara Kannada, 1,200 tests will be conducted every day.

“All the preventive measures which the district had taken in the initial days have been restarted. Check posts have been put up at Ankola and Karwar from March 17. All Tahsildar’s have been told about COVID test, Home Quarantine, Social Distancing, Mask wearing and using of sanitizers,” she added.

Uttara Kannada has 1.40 lakh, senior citizens. Of this 15 thousand have already taken vaccination. The remaining 1.25 lakh have to be vaccinated. The ASHA workers have been given a target. Information on senior citizens is being collected with the help of an Aadhar card.
