Yakshagana artiste Sadhu Kottari no more
Udupi, Jan 05, 2021: Senior Yakshagana artiste Sadhu Kottari (58) who developed chest pain during a Yakshagana show passed away while being shifted to hospital.
Sadhu is a senior Yakshagana artiste of Mandarthi’s third Mela. On Monday night he played the role of Magadha in ‘Madhura Mahindra,’ prasanga at Kajralli near Saibarkatte.
After his performance on stage he was in ‘Chauki,’ when he complained of chest pain. Immediately co-artists took him in a car to a private hospital at Brahmavar. But on the way, Sadhu breathed his last around 5 am.
Sadhu, a famous name in the Yakshagana field had started performing in Yakshagana when he was 15. Before joining Mandarthi Mela, he was part of Goligaradi, Kamalashile, Amruteshwari, Saligrama, Saukuru, and Haladi.
He is survived by wife, two sons, and a daughter. Yakshagana Kalaranga president M Gangadhar Rao and secretary Murali Kadekar have condoled the death of Sadhu Kottari.
