Udupi, Aug. 3: The Udupi district administration has declared a holiday for all Anganwadi centres and schools across the district on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, following a Yellow Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting intensified rainfall.

The order was issued by the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Udupi, under Sections 26, 30 and 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, as a precautionary measure in the interest of students’ safety. The decision follows the weather forecast communicated by the IMD on August 3.

According to the order, the holiday applies to all Anganwadi centres and government, aided and private primary and high schools across Udupi district.

However, Pre-University Colleges, ITIs, Diploma colleges, degree colleges, postgraduate institutions and engineering colleges will function as usual, and no holiday has been declared for these institutions.

The district administration has, however, issued a set of safety guidelines to college principals and managements while conducting classes.

College authorities have been instructed not to make student attendance compulsory. They have also been directed to ensure that students can travel safely to and from their institutions.
