Mangaluru, July 22, 2026: The Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority has declared a holiday for all schools and pre-university colleges up to Class 12 across the district on Thursday, July 23, 2026 following a Yellow Alert issued due to continuing heavy rainfall.

The order was issued on Wednesday by the Deputy Commissioner, who is also the Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, based on weather forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), Bengaluru. The agencies have indicated that the prevailing adverse weather conditions are likely to continue across the district.

As a precautionary measure, all Anganwadi centres, government, aided and private primary and high schools, residential schools, and pre-university colleges (up to Class 12, including residential PU colleges) will remain closed on July 23, 2026. The district administration warned that any institution violating the order would face legal action under Section 51(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
