Mangaluru, May 28, 2026: The Communist Party of India (CPI), along with the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), All India Youth Federation (AIYF) and National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW), staged a protest in Mangaluru on Tuesday condemning the rise in fuel prices and demanding immediate intervention by the Union government.

Addressing the demonstration, CPI Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district committee secretary B Shekhar alleged that the Centre was increasing the prices of petrol, diesel, LPG and CNG citing the war between the United States and Iran. He said the fuel price hike would trigger a sharp increase in the prices of essential commodities, further burdening the common people already struggling with rising living costs.

“The government came to power promising to control inflation, but instead prices continue to rise. We condemn this policy of the Centre and urge the government to take immediate steps to curb price rise,” he said.

Shekhar also criticised the Karnataka government over the alleged privatisation of health centres in the state.

AITUC district president H V Rao welcomed the Karnataka government’s recent order revising minimum wages for workers, while criticising the Union government for introducing the four labour codes after amending labour laws.

AIYF president Pushparaj B demanded stringent action against those responsible for the alleged NEET question paper leak.

NFIW leader Bharathi Prashanth highlighted the poor condition of government hospitals and urged the authorities to take immediate corrective measures.

The protest was led by V Kukan, Karunakara M, Thimmappa, Krishnappa, Geetha Bajal, Ashirwad, Babu Bhandary, Harshith and Premanath, among others. Sitaram Berinje compered the programme and Suresh Bantwal proposed the vote of thanks.
