KSRTC Buses Exempted from DM Notifications in Dakshina Kannada
Mangaluru, Feb 9, 2026: All buses operated by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) have been exempted from the Dakshina Kannada district administration’s notifications dated January 5, 1991, and April 6, 1993, the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada has ordered.
The exemption has been granted in the interest of public convenience, particularly to facilitate smooth travel for city residents and students in Mangaluru. The move is also aimed at enabling women passengers to avail themselves of the benefits of the ‘Shakti’ free bus travel scheme.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the decision was taken keeping in mind the convenience of patients travelling to government hospitals, overall passenger safety, and the need to promote public mass transport in the central areas of Mangaluru city. The exemption is also intended to discourage the use of private vehicles and reduce traffic congestion.
In view of these objectives, all KSRTC vehicles operating within the district have been brought outside the purview of the said notifications, the order clarified.
