Ujire: Republic Day Celebrated at SDM Campus

Ujire, Jan 27, 2026: The 77th Republic Day was celebrated at SDM Educational Institutions, Ujire, with a flag-hoisting ceremony and a series of student-led programmes at the Sri D. Ratnavarma Heggade Sports Ground, highlighting national values, cultural heritage and aspirations for the future.
The national flag was unfurled by retired Indian Navy Lieutenant Commander Bharat Kumar in the presence of SDM Educational Institutions Secretary Dr Satishchandra S. The programme underscored the theme of strengthening the present on the foundation of India’s rich traditions while charting a confident path towards a progressive future.
Cadets of the NCC unit of SDM College, along with Rover and Ranger representatives, took part in a disciplined march-past that drew attention. The parade was conducted under the guidance of NCC Officer Bhanuprakash (Army). This was followed by a series of cultural presentations by students of various SDM schools and colleges, reflecting India’s administrative, social and cultural evolution and the spirit of competitiveness in contemporary times.
The programme opened with an interactive dance performance by students of SDM School, featuring a parachute act symbolising the nation’s forward momentum. Set to the popular song ‘Jai Ho’ from the film Slumdog Millionaire, the performance reflected the confidence and energy of the younger generation.
A major segment of the programme focused on the contribution of women freedom fighters. Through artistic performances, students highlighted the legacy of Razia Sultana, Rudramadevi, Rani Padmini, Rani Abbakka, Chennamma of Kittur, Onake Obavva, Velawadi Mallamma, Tarabai, Ahilyabai Holkar, Bhimabai and Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, evoking a sense of pride and patriotism. Another presentation juxtaposed the simplicity of life in earlier times with present-day contradictions, accompanied by the theme music of ‘Malgudi Days’, symbolising a blend of tradition and modernity.

Students of the Naturopathy College presented a thematic performance conveying the message that natural and holistic healing methods can revitalise human life. The presentation, which began with a dialogue between Shiva and Parvati in English, traced the evolution of nature-based medical knowledge from ancient sages to modern times, emphasising that sustainable solutions to global challenges lie in harmony with nature.
Another student performance showcased the achievements of eminent personalities from various fields and their influence on generations, highlighting models of development and progress. Performances depicting India’s folk heritage, elements of Kerala’s culture, details of Operation Sindoor, the values embodied in ‘Vande Mataram’, and advances in science and technology were also presented.
Principals of various schools and colleges and heads of departments were present. Students, teaching and non-teaching staff, sports department personnel and local residents participated in the celebrations. On the occasion, details of achievements by students of the institution were also presented.
