MAHE concludes “Shishu Bharath: Nurturing the Brave Hearts of India”
Uniting healthcare leaders and survivors for pediatric cancer awareness

Manipal, September 11, 2025: Kasturba Medical College (KMC) and Manipal School of Commerce and Economics (MSCE), constituent units of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), on Wednesday concluded “Shishu Bharath: Nurturing the Brave Hearts of India” at the Dr. TMA Pai Auditorium, Manipal. The flagship initiative aimed at raising awareness and mobilising support for childhood cancer care brought together medical experts, survivors, thought leaders and community partners.
The programme was presided over by Dr. H. S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, MAHE, with Ms. Anagha Joshi, Founder of The DYOT Foundation, California, as Chief Guest, and Mr. Ravindra Rai, MD and CEO, BoB Card, as Guest of Honour, reflecting collaboration across healthcare, philanthropy and financial sectors.
Dr. Ballal said the initiative went beyond creating awareness, noting MAHE’s commitment to ensuring that no child with cancer feels alone. He praised the courage of survivors and the dedication of healthcare professionals and families.
Dr. Sharath K. Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor, MAHE, underlined the institution’s commitment to pediatric oncology care and research, while Dr. Vasudeva Bhat K., Head of Pediatric Oncology, KMC, presented departmental initiatives with focus on holistic support for patients and families.

A motivational talk, “The Power Within,” by Mr. A. D. Sendureswaran, Managing Trustee, Dr. Dharmambal Namasivayam Trust, highlighted stories of young survivors. Bone tumor survivor Ms. Veena T. N. also shared her personal testimony of resilience.
Ms. Joshi said the initiative showed how global collaboration can create pathways to healing and holistic care. Mr. Rai emphasised the role of corporate and community partnerships in addressing both medical and financial challenges faced by families.
The event was organised by KMC and Dr. Dharmambal Namasivayam Trust in collaboration with The DYOT Foundation and MAHE’s Economics and Social Networking Centre. Presentations from stakeholder organisations showcased frameworks to support families facing direct medical expenses and indirect burdens.
The programme ended with the presentation of mementoes and a vote of thanks by Mrs. Hilda Cornelio.
