Free Dialysis Services Launched at SDM Multispecialty Hospital
Ujire, Jan 01, 2024: SDM Multispecialty Hospital in Ujire has launched free dialysis services to support economically underprivileged patients. The initiative, costing ₹1.40 crore annually, was inaugurated by Dr. Hemavati V. Heggade as part of the hospital’s commitment to affordable healthcare.
Highlighting the burden of dialysis costs on weaker sections of society, Dr. Hemavati stated that patients often deplete their savings on continuous treatment. Inspired by Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade’s vision, the free dialysis scheme aims to ease this financial strain.
As part of its welfare initiatives, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala has also implemented ‘Sampurna Suraksha,’ a comprehensive health insurance scheme for needy patients, she added.
Hospital Managing Director M. Janardhan noted that dialysis services were introduced at SDM Multispecialty Hospital in January 2022. Equipped with 11 dialysis machines in an air-conditioned facility, the hospital performs over 30 dialysis sessions daily, with more than 10,000 procedures completed to date.
“The free dialysis services will provide significant relief to patients, who can save between ₹12,000 and ₹24,000 per month, as each session costs ₹1,500 and most patients require 3-4 sessions weekly. Under the scheme, each patient is eligible for up to 12 free sessions per month,” Janardhan explained.
Additionally, SDM Multispecialty Hospital offered free medical services worth ₹4.98 crore in 2024 and organized over 40 free medical camps in rural areas during the year.
The launch event saw the presence of Dr. Satvik Jain, Physician; Dr. Balakrishna Bhat, General Physician; Dr. Devendra, Medical Superintendent; and other hospital staff members. Dr. Anusha compered the event, and Liaison Officer Chidanand delivered the vote of thanks.
