Ujire: SDM College Hosts Workshop on Poetry Composition
Ujire, Sept 13, 2024: Literature is vast like an ocean, and Kannada literature boasts a rich history spanning 2,000 years. One lifetime is not enough to grasp the entirety of world literature, said poet and Kannada professor of Hampanakatta University College Dr. Madhu Biradar. He emphasized that the essence of literature lies in the emotions we choose to highlight.
Dr. Biradar was speaking as a resource person at a poetry composition workshop titled ‘Kaavya Kattuva Bage’ organized by the Kannada Association at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College, Ujire, on September 12.
Referring to iconic Kannada writers, Dr. Biradar said, “Pampa, Ranna, and Kuvempu wrote Mahabharata, but their political, social, and economic contexts were different, which gave their works a unique touch. Only poets who stand strong against the tide are remembered. Poetry becomes effortless when one has profound experiences.”
College principal Dr. B.A. Kumar Hegde, who inaugurated the event, shared insights on poetry, stating, “Writing poetry is easy. It requires sensitivity, empathy, and curiosity about events. When emotions arise from within, they are expressed as poetry.”
He added, “If the rhyme and emotions are in harmony, that’s poetry. Poetry has the power to take us back in time emotionally. When we hear poems from the past, memories of those days come flooding back.”
The event was attended by Kannada faculty members Dr. Divakar Kokkada, Dr. M.P. Srinath, Dr. Rajshekhar, Bhavyashree, and Tejaswi, along with students. Dr. Naganna D.A., the event coordinator, was also present.
The head of the Kannada department, Dr. Bojamma K.N., welcomed the gathering. Student Ullekha proposed the vote of thanks, while Himaly M.P. hosted the event.
