Mangaluru, Sept 12, 2024: Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anand K has directed that all Gram Panchayat areas, including schools, Anganwadi centers, government buildings, and public places, should undertake cleanliness drives from September 14 to October 2. This initiative will involve Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, self-help group members, and Gram Panchayat officials and staff.

Dr. Anand K. emphasized these instructions during an online meeting about the “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign. The campaign, organized annually from September 14 to October 2, aims to ensure complete sanitation in every village, under the purview of the Central Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

He urged the formation of teams, in collaboration with educational institutions and NGOs within the Gram Panchayat limits, to start regular cleanliness activities. Each week during the cleanliness drive, at least one day of activity should be maintained. It is essential that no waste is visible within the Gram Panchayat areas. Executive Officers of all Taluk Panchayats have been instructed to ensure these local cleanliness activities are carried out effectively.

ASHA workers are expected to participate actively in sanitation campaigns, focusing on training, capacity building, and information dissemination. Voluntary work should be organized around all health centers and their surroundings in the district. Posters and short films should be used to raise awareness about hygiene and clean drinking water, according to Dr. Anand K.

Cleanliness drives should also be organized in APMC yards, markets, and other public areas, with school children participating in rallies, art, and essay competitions. Efforts should be made to maintain cleanliness in school and college premises. Programs for the cleanliness of toilets and tree planting around primary and secondary schools, as well as colleges, should be conducted.

Furthermore, cleanliness activities should be organized at beaches, riverbanks, drinking water sources, tourist spots, and spiritual sites. The water tanks related to drinking water should be cleaned and documented with dates. Proper care must be taken around borewells to prevent the accumulation of weeds and stagnant water, as instructed by the District Panchayat CEO.

The meeting was attended by officials from various departments.
