District-Level Senior Citizen Competitions to Be Held at Mangala Stadium
Mangalore, Aug 31, 2024: In celebration of the 2024 World Senior Citizens Day, a sports and cultural competition will be held on September 10 at Mangala Stadium, Lalbagh, Mangalore. The event, organized by the District Welfare Office for Disabled Persons and Senior Citizens, aims to bring together senior citizens from various age groups for a day of fun and competition.
The sports competitions will kick off at 9:00 AM, with categories based on age. Events include musical chairs for both men and women aged 60 to 70, brisk walking for men and women aged 60 to 69, as well as those aged 70 and above, and ball throwing into a bucket for participants in the same age groups.
The cultural competitions will feature singing contests and monologue performances for both men and women, categorized into 60-69 years and 70 years and above.
Other contests include painting competitions, balancing a book while walking, lemon-and-spoon races, ball throwing, and shot put. Participants are allowed to compete in up to three events, including a combination of sports, cultural, and other competitions.
To participate, interested senior citizens must register by September 7, 5:30 PM, by contacting the District Welfare Office at 0824-2458173 or 0824-2455999. Winners of the district-level competitions in musical chairs (for women aged 60-69) and brisk walking (for men aged 60-69) will represent the district at the state-level competition.
Prizes for the first, second, and third-place winners in all categories will be distributed on October 1 during the World Senior Citizens Day celebration.
