St Agnes College Marks 78th Independence Day with Enthusiastic Celebrations
Mangaluru, Aug 16, 2024: St Agnes College (Autonomous) observed India’s 78th Independence Day on August 15 with a spirited celebration. The event was led by Dr. Nancy H Vaz, Registrar of St Agnes College, who served as the chief guest.
The chief guest Dr Nancy H Vaz, was escorted by the NCC Cadets along with Sr Dr M Venissa A C, the principal, Sr Carmel Rita A C, administrator and ANO’s NCC Army Wing Capt Gayathri B K and Fg Offr ANO, NCC Air Wing Dr Hithakshi B.
The festivities commenced with the unfurling of the national flag by Dr. Vaz, followed by the National Anthem.
In her address, Dr. Vaz emphasized the importance of freedom and patriotism, urging students to embody these values in their daily lives. Quoting Rabindranath Tagore’s famous poem, she stressed the need for simplicity, sincerity, and dedication to the nation. “Freedom is to stand without fear,” she stated, aligning her message with the college’s motto, “God is my Strength.”
The celebration also included a plantation drive, where NSS volunteers and students from the Agnes Towards Community initiative planted 104 saplings on campus. The event further featured the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, actively observed by the NCC cadets.
The ceremony opened with a prayer and featured a patriotic song led by NSS volunteers. The event was well-attended by Vice Principal Sr Roopa AC, PG Coordinator Sr Dr. Vinora AC, deans, HODs, faculty members, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, and students.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dan Charles, while Hadi welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest. The college community came together to celebrate the spirit of patriotism and unity on this significant day.
