Vaccination against Foot and Mouth Disease to Begin in Udupi District

Udupi, March 21, 2024: The fifth round of the foot and mouth vaccination programme is set to commence across Udupi district from April 1 to 30, as part of the National Livestock Diseases Control Programme aimed at managing foot and mouth disease in cattle, announced DC Dr. K Vidya Kumari.
Speaking at the district-level management committee meeting for the cattle foot and mouth fever vaccination programme, held at the deputy commissioner’s office auditorium in Rajathadri, Manipal, Dr. Vidya Kumari emphasized the importance of community cooperation to ensure the success of the vaccination drive. Veterinary officers and staff will conduct door-to-door visits during the programme, urging residents to actively participate in safeguarding the health of their cattle by vaccinating them.
Dr. Vidyakumari stressed the necessity of vaccinating all cattle to prevent the spread of foot and mouth disease, emphasizing that neglecting vaccination could result in the transmission of the disease to other livestock. To enhance awareness and participation, efforts will be made to inform schools, municipal corporations, gram panchayats, as well as engage anganwadi and ASHA workers.
The meeting saw the participation of key stakeholders including Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, Dr. M.C. Reddappa, Managing Director of Dakshina Kannada Milk Federation Corporation, Mangaluru, Chandrashekar, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, Dr. K.S.I.P Gadada, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Department, Shyamala C., Deputy Director of Public Education Department Ganapathy, Taluk Chief Veterinary Officer, and others.
