Manipal: Kasturba Hospital’s Human Chain Crafts Iconic Cancer Ribbon for World Cancer Day
Manipal, February 6, 2024: Marking World Cancer Day, Kasturba Hospital Manipal, in collaboration with Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre, orchestrated a compelling demonstration of unity and awareness by forming the iconic cancer awareness Ribbon through a human chain.
Doctors, students, faculty members, and various stakeholders came together in a unique initiative designed to dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding cancer while educating the community about its signs, symptoms, and risk factors.
World Cancer Day, observed annually on February 4th, serves as a global reminder to promote understanding and action against this relentless disease. Cancer’s impact can be mitigated through the implementation of evidence-based strategies for prevention, screening, early detection, treatment, and palliative care.
While many cancers remain asymptomatic in their early stages, certain diagnostic tests (screening techniques) exhibit sensitivity in detecting cancer even when it is not visibly apparent. This not only reduces the burden of dealing with late-stage presentations but also supports successful treatment outcomes.
Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, emphasized on this occasion, stating, “The formation of the human chain at Kasturba Hospital Manipal in collaboration with Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre goes beyond being a symbolic gesture; it is a testament to our dedication to raising awareness about cancer and nurturing a culture of prevention.”
